What's in a name?

The colours I wore today are reminiscent of my favourite butterfly.  And the sleeves of my kurta-style are fluttery.  Other than that, I've got nothing to write about.  sigh.

Oh, I do have this.  Butterfly is not a spoonerism, as in it's not "fluttterby" said by ye olde drunken person ("lo behold...hic...tis a...hic...flu.....flu.....butterfly..."), it stems from the Old English name, 'buttorfleoge', which is derived from the Dutch words to mean 'beat' and 'fly' or maybe even 'flys away with butter' because butterflies were thought to steal milk.
Yeah I know.  Picture that.  Tough butterflies in Netherlands [Holland]...  I like the drunken flutterby namer story better.

One question.  Maybe 2.  Now that I'm roaming far and wide and being visited by so many fab bloggers and seeing so many fab blogs... I'm curious....how did you come up with the name of your blog?  Why did you name it thus?  Okay so many names are fairly straightforward but other names really intrigue me!

I'll go first.  the Dusk zone.  The Twilight Zone.  Famous show about weird things so there you go!  I was born at 6pm so that's obviously why I wasn't called Dawn!  Dusk is also my favourite time of day.  And night.  A mix of depth and light... that's what I hope my blog represents.

Hi Dusk! Miss you girl! Name of my blog: well, see how corny I can be. I can't think of a name so I named it Leah. Boring huh? Hahaha!

Love your kurta top. The color is so perfect.

Have a great week ahead! xoxo

I love flutterbies, I love your outfit, and I love the way you named your blog! I've always wondered. As for HiFashion, it was named by Sherin - she came up with a list of possible names and I liked this one, so we stuck with it! :P

Love the kurta top, so so gorgeous! I wish I had an interesting story for my blog name, but I don't!

Hippie Holly said...

Oooh I love this colour and it looks fantastic on you. And the butterflies are pretty awesome.

Our blog name started with my screen name Holly, which is my way to show my out of control love and girl crush on Holly Golightly and Audrey Hrpburn of course. I love her. Once Holly was settled on, Hippie was added because my main aim in life is to take off and join the hippies and travel the world. Plus I like to have some boho elements in my daily wear. Sally, came up with her name on a whim and added simple to it because she likes keeping things simple in both her life and style. Plus we thought both the names sorta went together :)

Lovely picture! My blog didn't start as a fashion/photography, but as a health blog, hence the name. For a while I thought about changing it so something more 'fashionable', but now I'm just sticking with it.

Dusk is my favourite time of the day too! Your name is beautiful and the pic of you with the breeze blowing your scarf is priceless!

My blog name is actually taken from the lyrics of one of my favourite songs, beautiful love by the afters..."Far away, I feel your beating heart
All alone, beneath the crystal stars"...and that's the story of my blog name:)

Beautiful colour. I also like the flutterby story (and the word) better...

I started blogging when I felt I wanted a new outlet someplace else...also it helped that at that at that time I used to read Times of India and Jug Suraiya had mentioned "someplace else" as a hangout place in Calcutta several times- which still remains on my list of places to see...
